Prof. Jeremiah Seni

CUHAS - Mwanza Tanzania

Jeremiah Seni (MD, MMed, PhD) is an Associate Professor of Microbiology and Infectious Diseases at the Catholic University of Health and Allied Sciences (CUHAS) and Bugando Medical Centre (BMC) in Mwanza – Tanzania. He is currently serving as the Director of Postgraduate Studies at CUHAS, and antimicrobial resistance (AMR) Surveillance Lead and Co-Lead in the Emergency Preparedness and Response at BMC. His fifteen years of clinical and research experience has been on delineation of transmission dynamics and impact assessment of multi-drug resistant pathogens of public health importance, setting-up hospital-based AMR surveillance and antimicrobial stewardship (AMS) systems, evaluating cost-effective diagnostics, developing evidence-based guidelines on infectious diseases treatment, prevention and control using One-Health approach. He has provided technical expertise tovarious institutions in-country, regionally and globally with the recent one on the WHO Global AMR Research Agenda in the human health sector in June 2023 (https://www.who.int/publications/m/item/global-research-agenda-for-antimicrobial-resistance-in-human-health). He is currently working on the incremental predictive potentials for various inflammatory markers of sepsis among critically ill patients at the emergency and intensive care units. Seni is a member Global Alliance for Infections in Surgery, a member of the Tanzania Multisectoral Coordinating Committee on AMR; member of the National Biosafety and Biosecurity Technical Working Group (TWG), and National Chairperson of the AMS TWG.
